Sri Lankan Stock Market

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is the main stock exchange in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best stock market in the world. The headquarters of the CSE have been located at the World Trade Center Towers in Colombo (Colombo Stock Exchange, (#04-01, West Block, World Trade Center, Echelon Square,Colombo 01). It also has branches across the country in Kandy, Matara, Kurunegala, Jaffna and Negombo.

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has 255 companies representing 20 business sectors as at today and the Market Capitalisation of the CSE is nearly Rs.2.5 Trillion.




If you wish to purchase shares........

There are two ways to purchase shares

A new issue of shares (Initial Public Offering) - (Primary Market)

The primary market is where the security is purchased directly from the issuer (company).

The Secondary Market through a stock broker -

The investor could buy shares from another investor who wish to sell the same at an agreed price.

To open a Securities Account in the CDS you should complete an Account Opening Form and provide documents (NIC and a billing proof) to proove your identity. You can can be obtained account opening forms from stockbrokering firm or custodian bank. There are no fees charged for opening a CDS account.
